Background of the Study
Political education, through civic engagement programs, plays a vital role in enhancing governance by empowering citizens to understand their rights, responsibilities, and the political processes (Adegboyega & Olofin, 2020). In Makurdi LGA, Benue State, various civic education programs have been implemented to improve public awareness and participation in governance. These programs aim to encourage active citizen participation in political and decision-making processes, thereby contributing to the enhancement of governance.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the availability of civic education programs in Makurdi LGA, challenges persist in ensuring broad participation in governance. Many citizens remain disengaged from the political process, and there is limited understanding of the implications of governance decisions. This study seeks to evaluate the role of political education in enhancing governance in Makurdi, focusing on the effectiveness of civic engagement programs.
